Artworks by James Buxton
Red Barn Gallery & Studio
I made a decision to integrate more discarded & used items into my vocabulary of material that I utilize to make my sculptures. With these repurposed traditional & non-traditional materials, my approach on how I go about the process of making and exploring changed. I have now, more than ever, gone about my process of making and exploring like a scientist. Even more like a jazz musician or dancer, because I improvise my way through the process without pre-thinking through each decision. I trust my intuitive instincts in guiding my progressive flow, without holding on to old ideals of the way I went about my process making. I have loosened the chains of my academic training in order to feel the spirit of the piece flowing through me. I no longer fight with the materials; I juse let he material tell me how it should collectively flow in relationship to the overall composition. Each day presents new and exciting challenges with each new work experience! With these challenges I now take more risk taking in the process making! I must state that each day in the studio builds upon ongoing research from my past works! No matter how I let the piece flow I continue to commmunicate some kind of experience or narrative in the work?
